"Les Darons" carries a double meaning: it's affectionate Parisian-suburb slang for "The Parents"—a nod both to the winemaker's own family and to Grenache and Carignan, long considered the forefather grapes of the Languedoc's red wines. A Paris-born roving négociant and grower, Jeff Carrel works alongside organic growers to make characterful, honest wines, each with its own story and playful label.
This Grenache-led blend, rounded out with Syrah, is raised entirely in concrete on its fine lees—no oak—to keep the fruit fresh and vivid. Deep purple-ruby in the glass, it's packed with ripe dark fruit—plum, blackberry, blueberry—and lifted by garrigue herbs, cinnamon, and cracked pepper, while an underlying mineral streak keeps everything in balance. Powerful yet supple and elegant, with silky, ripe tannins and a long, satisfying finish.
MADE FOR THE TABLE
A crowd-pleasing red for barbecues, grilled and roasted meats of any kind, tailgates, and gatherings of all sorts.
