This is the month of true transition. The perpetual daylight of summer is gone, and we begin to embrace the natural cues of rest ushered in by early evenings.
The harvest is gathered and stored.
Our grilling has turned into braising.
And as we pull a gorgeous mélange of slow-roasted, caramel-sweet root vegetables from the oven, we pull the cork from a bottle of luscious pinot noir to accompany the meal.
It's fall's perfect match.
At our Friday Community Tastings in October, we'll be exploring pinots from California, Burgundy, and the Willamette Valley (which happens to be where our monthly case sale wine is from). You'll become familiar with just how varied her expressions can be.
This particular grape has extremely thin skin making her very reactive to the surrounding micro-climate. And truth be told, viticulturists aren't typically jumping at the bit to grow her because, well, she can be a bit of a diva. But those lucky enough to have optimal growing conditions in their vineyards are rewarded with a wine that swings from the fruity side of things (in California) to the richer, earthier flavors found in a Burgundian pour.
Oaked, or not, pinot noir is a varietal equally superlative bolstering a meal or being savored, alone, fireside.
Join us every Friday from 4-7 at our Community Tastings as we deepen our appreciation of fine wine together.
